Weekend trip away to the Isle of Anglesey

Got back today from 2 days away in Northern Wales on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey. To get to where we were staying you had to pass over the quite charming Menai Bridge. Will try and post a picture on here later.

Anyway it wasnt supposed to be an educational weekend but we ended up touring through three windfarms as we got our bearings and ended up at the Nuclear facility at the top end of the Isle which produces 40% of Wales electricity output from the site. I will do a proper review of what I discovered later in the week but my impression on nuclear energy is certainly swaying more towards it when compared with the global warming from similar output stations which are coal generated.(e.g Fiddlers Ferry or Drax).

The whole idea of this blog was to look at efficiency in energy and not be swayed to heavily in any particular direction but to offer unbiased viewpoints on my observations about Energy. The Nuclear site on Anglesey is due for decomissioning in 2010 but they have enough land to put up another more efficient site based on more modern technology.

It was a real eye opener when you see what the combined total of the 3 wind farms generated compared to the WYLFA Nuclear site and to give you some perspective the 83 turbines was only generating less than 10% of the WYLFA facility and the impact on the landscape is a lot less dramatic than having dozend of turbines scattered everywhere.
